NAMS eighth-graders participate in Moving Up ceremony
Northampton Area Middle School students met a milestone when they were officially promoted from NAMS to Northampton Area High School, essentially leaving their elementary years behind and preparing to enter the 2023-24 academic year as high school freshmen.
Excitement filled the NAMS gymnasium May 31 and June 1 and 2 as each day hosted Moving Up ceremonies of plants 1, 2 and 3 eighth-grade students. The individual plant grouping gave a smaller, more intimate feel to the celebration. Students were eager to be promoted and for the presentation of several coveted awards.
The PTA Merit Awards are awarded each year by the PTA to six students from grade 8 - two students from each plant. These students exemplify qualities of good citizenship and actively participate in their community.
This year’s recipients are Rylee Gable, Kyaire Frisby, Lilly Schlittler, Corbin Miller, Ivy Cuppy-Collis and Logan Pierson.
The Principal’s Award is given to a student who represents the values of a Konkrete Kid. They are Aidan D’Avanzo, JosMarie Mateo and Hope McCormick.
The Sen. Nick Miller Good Citizenship Award exemplifies the qualities of good citizenship through the student’s display of outstanding character, leadership and scholarship. The student should demonstrate his or her willingness to accept responsibility and challenges put forth by the administration and faculty at this school. The recipients are Francea Towler, Keira Kunkel, John Alamorian, Ryan Kocher, Brianna Clough, Schyler Schneck, Blayze Ibera, Drew Bauer, Noelia Sorto Granados, Emalee Hudson, Richard Punzalan and Logan Romanishan.
