Gilberto Resto Sr., 89, of Allentown, died June 18, 2023, at his residence. He was the husband of Dawnie (Zellers) Resto for 43 years.
Born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Carlos and Mercedes (Valentin) Resto.
At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was in the 322nd Tank Battalion for two years in Germany during the Korean War. He was then in the U.S. Army reserves for six years.
He worked at Dixie Manufacturing, N.J. He then worked as a first class welder/fitter for Fuller/FLSmidth Company, Catasauqua, from which he retired after 31 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Gilberto and wife Noemi, Luis and wife Tonya, Gilberto Jr. and wife Barbara and James Geiger Sr. and wife Darlene; two daughters, Maria Resto-Acevedo and Louann Lower; fourteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Fox; and two brothers, Carlos and Antonio.
