Clarence William Crompton
Clarence William “Bill” Crompton, 69, of Macungie, died June 6, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the husband of Eileen P. (Munro) Crompton for 47 years. Born in Rocky Mount, N.C., he was the son of Emma Lorine (Daughtridge) Crompton and the late Charles William Crompton.
He was a graduate of Penn State University. He began his career in New York City working as an account executive for Proctor and Gamble and General Mills. He moved to the Lehigh Valley in 1984 and joined Alpo Pet Foods. With extensive corporate leadership experience and a deep background in marketing and sales strategy, he served as marketing vice president for Alpo.
He was a founding partner and chief operating officer for a startup business earning acclaims from “Venture Idol” and was selected by producers of “Shark Tank” as a finalist. Returning to his roots, an admirer of his hardworking family of masons, carpenters and steelworkers, he became co-founder of a custom home building business.
He loved spending time with his family and loved nature. Weekend gatherings included cousins, family and friends for picnics, campfires and sing-alongs. His many interests included hunting, fly fishing, pigeon racing, coaching soccer and baseball, singing and playing a variety of instruments. He was often seen with his mighty Mahindra tractor weaving through the fields on Mountain Road.
He was a planner - whether it be a detailed marketing plan, a plot plan for his blueberry plants, house plans for a customer or future plans for generations of Cromptons. Each summer, he stocked his pond with trout for all the avid Crompton fly fishermen and women. Summer visits to his birthplace ingrained a deep love for the outdoors while canoeing and fishing “on the creek” with cousins, his grandpa and his cherished Uncle John.
He is survived by his wife; mother; sons, Brett and his wife, Kate, William and his wife, Anne; daughter, Annie and her husband, Dr. Edward Guarino; grandchildren, Sophia, Gabriella, Piero, Liam, Wyatt, Asa; brothers, Donald, Paul and his wife, Sue; sister, Terri.
