Church ready to welcome students to summer music camp

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, is preparing for its summer music camp, which will be held 9-11 a.m. July 10-14, for students in grades 4-12.

Two daily sessions are scheduled - 9-9:45 a.m. and 10-11 a.m., with a break in between.

Band, modern band for grades 6-12, ukulele and classroom music are offered during session one, and chorus, modern band for grades 3-5, classroom music and music theory are in session two.

Band, taught by Rob Arnold, will allow students to build on their skill set by incorporating beginner music theory concepts while learning pieces for a short concert.

In modern band, taught by Doug Kaetz and Thomas Hart, students will learn to play chords and patterns on the guitar, bass and drum using popular music. Students will focus on different instruments and patterns each day to learn a collection of songs. Bring your guitar or bass.

Jill Kemmerer will teach the beginner ukulele class to lay the foundation of chord charts, reading tablature and strumming patterns. By the end of the course, students will be able to accompany themselves while they sing and will have a list of free resources to continue learning.

Classroom music, taught by Mike Fister and Kendra Saunders, will help students improve their ensemble and improvisation skills. Students will move, sing, play and create using classroom band instruments, such as xylophones, drums and more. This course is intended to help encourage creativity and fun.

Benjamin Becker will lead the chorus course to help students learn to sing with peers in a choral setting by learning vocal techniques and listening skills using music from multiple genres and time periods. Students will learn the basics of music theory, such as key signatures, simple composition and chord progressions, under the leadership of Arnold.

Additionally, Paige Dinbokowitz will teach the basic skills of color guard including the different parts of the equipment and how to use them.
