New police corporal; two youths honored

Bethlehem Township Commissioners heard a proposal for garden apartments at 4406 Easton Avenue for nearly 90 minutes June 5.

Three witnesses, Highview representative David Gunia, Traffic Planning and Design engineer Peter Spisszak and Hanover Engineer Associates design engineer Andrew Bohl answered questions from Highview Commercial LLC lawyer Stanley Margle III on the merits of this 96-unit complex.

Based on the current market, rental costs per unit are estimated to be around $1,500 - $2,000, according to Gunia.

With the development having only one entrance/exit, along Farmersville Road, traffic-related issues such as congestion and wait times were also raised.

Later, an update on the Active Transportation Plan was presented to the commissioners from focusing on bike and walking trails safely throughout the township. A detailed update for public review will be provided in July. Final submission is slated for September.

Fulton Contracting was awarded the contract to the municipal roof replacement project.

“Rewarding” is the word used by Bethlehem Township Police Officer Kevin Lindsay told The Press moments before being sworn-in as the township’s latest Corporal.

Lindsay went on “it’s been a passion throughout my life to be part of the community and serve the community.” Lindsay is a nine-year veteran with the force.

During the swearing-in, Chief Gregory Gottschall described his officer as “being well respected among his peers for his calm demeanor, knowledge, common sense and leadership abilities. Officer Lindsay is of the departments certified field training officers, who teaches and mentors new officers.”

Two Freedom HS students were honored by the board for their heroic actions.

Brenden Lee Henriques and Gabriella Nicole Gomez were on duty as lifeguards at the pool of their high school May 2. Noticing a motionless student, they were quick to react and retrieve the individual.

CPR was performed until the victim regained consciousness. They kept the person stable until paramedics arrived at the scene. The individual was transported to hospital and has since recovered.
