Waves fall to Stingrays
The Whitehall Waves opened their summer swim season at Memorial Pool, Bethlehem, where they took on the Stingrays on June 15.
“We have a lot of new faces and a lot who aged-up this year, so this first meet was seeing what they could do,” said Whitehall Waves head coach Daniel Jablonski. “I’m really excited to see their progression the rest of the season.”
Joseph Trinkle, Owen Trinkle, Andrew Fritchman, and Tarek Makhoul clinched Whitehall’s first victory of the meet when they combined to win the 8 & Under 100 freestyle relay (1:40.18).
Riley Bashore won the 8 & Under 25 breaststroke (29.29) for the girls, and Joseph Trinkle won for the boys (27.81).
Owen Trinkle took first place in the 25 butterfly (29.19), and Bashore won the 25 free (21.12).
In Whitehall’s 9-10 age group, Xavier Makhoul won the 25 fly (18.52), and Derek Bashore came in first in the 25 backstroke (20.87) and the 25 free (16.07).
Kendall Bashore won the 100 IM (1:17.56) and the 50 fly (33.52) for the Waves in the 11-12 age group.
Greta O’Brien was the 50 fly winner (41.32), Ryann Giedl won the 50 back (40.53), and Johnny Stinner took first in the 100 free (1:13.88), all for the Waves, ages 13-14.
In Whitehall’s 15 & Over group, first place finishers were Aaron Stinner in the 100 IM (1:05.28) and the 100 free (56.58), and Neave Doyle in the 50 back (35.72).
“Definitely the older kids were stepping up like Gabe O’Brien and Kendall Bashore who is one of my biggest lane leaders,” Jablonski said. “A lot of people have dropped a lot of times already from last year. We had some people trying out new strokes, and I think they did really well and we have a good future ahead of us.”
The Waves closed out the meet with a victory by Abigail Fritchman, Kendall Bashore, Neave Doyle, Kyra Giedl, and Karina Makhoul in the girls crescendo relay (2:23.94).
The final team score was Bethlehem Stingrays 372 - Whitehall Waves 209.
