Student thespians from area high schools gathered under the State Theatre Center for the Arts lights for the 2023 Freddy Awards, held May 25 at the 453 Northampton St., Easton, location.
Select cast members from 29 participating school theater departments performed together in the annual event’s opening and closing numbers.
Catasauqua High School’s production of “Pippin” scored two Freddy Awards out of three nominations.
Graduating seniors Angelina Dries and Aidan Heil were honored with the Freddy Awards for Outstanding Small Ensemble Performance for “On The Right Track.” Dries played Leading Player, and Heil portrayed Pippin in the musical set in the Middle Ages.
Dries returned to the podium a second time to accept the Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role Award. Having won this honor, Dries became one of two recipients of the $500 Mowad Turf Specialists LLC Cash Award.
The CHS production was also nominated for the Vic Kumma Award for Outstanding Solo Vocal Performance for Heil’s rendition of “Corner of the Sky.”
