Salisbury LVL team drops four after win
The Salisbury Lehigh Valley Legion baseball team is off to a 1-4 start to the season. The Falcons beat Southern Lehigh to open the season and have dropped three straight since then.
Tuesday, May 30
Salisbury-So. Lehigh
The Falcons used a five-run fourth inning to take the lead then sealed the 10-7 win five more runs over the next two innings.
Tommy Lovelidge led off with a single and Jacob Bucchin reached base on an error to start the fourth inning. Both players scored on an Andrew Grejda single for a 2-1 lead. Grejda scored on a Brady Leiner single before Nate Nunez hit a two-run single to score Caleb Gonzalez and Owen Fogal, giving Salisbury a 5-1 lead.
Bucchin and Austin Spisszak singled to start the Salisbury fifth inning. They scored on singles by Dominic Garcia an Leiner, respectively. Gonzalez, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a wild pitch to give his team an 8-1 lead.
Salisbury tacked on two more runs in the sixth when Michael Stauffer, Dennis Henninger and Tyler Kuder all singled to load the bases. James Scialla, who reached base on a fielder’s choice, scored when Lucas Soria was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Henninger scored on a wild pitch for a 10-1 lead.
The Spartans made it interesting when their first three batters of the sixth inning walked to load the bases. Another walk, a single and an error amounted to four runs to cut the Falcon lead to 10-6.
A walk, a double and an error got Southern Lehigh one more run in the last inning, but Garcia got out of the jam to give his team a season-opening win.
Lovelidge pitched five innings and allowed six hits and no earned runs to get the win. Garcia pitched two innings and allowed no earned runs while striking out four batters.
Wednesday, May 31
Carbon Monarchs-
Salisbury
The Carbon Monarchs used three big innings to beat Salisbury 12-2 in five innings.
Carbon scored four runs in the third, four more in the fourth and three in the fifth.
After the Monarchs went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning, Salisbury answered with a two-run bottom half of the inning.
Michael Stauffer doubled and scored the first run on an Austin Spisszak single. Tommy Lovelidge, who singled to advance Stauffer to third, came around to score when Dominic Garcia doubled and the Monarchs committed an error.
Carter Birnbaum went 4-for-4 for Carbon while driving in six runs.
Thursday, June 1
Lower Mac-Salisbury
Lower Macungie took an early lead that Salisbury couldn’t overcome in a 10-5 setback.
The Mustangs went ahead 7-1 after three innings. Salisbury pulled within a run with a four-run fifth inning, but never got closer.
After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, Salisbury got a run on an Austin Spisszak sacrifice fly that scored Lovelidge, who singled with one out.
In the fifth, Salisbury loaded the bases on singles by Andrew Grejda and Mason Dickert and Josh Holler walk. Michael Stauffer doubled to score Holler and Dickert. Stuaffer came in on an error to make it 7-5.
Monday, June 5
Salisbury-So. Parkland
Three South Parkland pitchers combined to allow just two hits over seven innings in a 5-1 Trojan win.
Jaiden Wannamaker allowed no hits over two innings. Ben Stay pitched three innings and allowed just one hit and an unearned run while striking out three batters and walking two. Andrew Klotz pitched two innings and struck out five batters while walking one and allowing one hit.
Salisbury got its only run in the sixth inning when Caleb Gonzalez walked to lead off the inning and scored on an error on Michael Stauffer’s hard-hit ground ball.
The Falcons were threatening to do more damage in the inning, down 3-1 with the bases loaded with one out. But Klotz got a strikeout and pop up to end the inning for the unbeaten Trojans.
Tommy Lovelidge allowed four hits over five innings and was tagged with just one earned run in the loss. He struck out six Trojans while walking none.
Friday, June 9
Salisbury-Allentown
Allentown’s Frawley Peralta pitched a no-hitter over five innings to lead his team to a 4-1 win.
Peralta struck out four batters and walked four while being tagged with an earned run. Benjamin Moretz threw 1.2 innings and allowed the Falcons only hit in the game.
Jake Zellin doubled in the seventh inning for his team’s only hit in the loss.
Saturday, June 10
No. Parkland-Salisbury
North Parkland took at 8-0 lead after four innings and the Falcons couldn’t overcome it in a 9-4 loss to the Buffaloes.
Salisbury’s bats came alive in the sixth inning when Andrew Grejda drew a leadoff walk before doubles by Jake Zellin and Austin Spisszak, who drove in both runners to get his team on the board.
Dominic Garcia singled and Josh Holler was hit by a pitch to load the bases for James Scialla, who singled to drive in two more runs.
Salisbury committed three errors in the loss.
