Detours in place for work on Allen Twp. bridges

At the May 23 Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, township Manager Ilene Eckhart provided an update on the upcoming bridge replacement projects.

Traffic will be detoured for the Indian Trail Road bridge replacement, which began June 1. Because of the bridge’s location, traffic will have to bypass Indian Trail Road entirely and use Kreidersville Road instead.

The Howertown Road bridge is also being replaced around the same time.

Howertown Road will be in flag traffic conditions, which started May 29, to allow workers to install cross pipes, with the actual detour beginning a week later, which was June 5.

Northbound drivers will be able to travel on Howertown Road. Southbound traffic will travel from Old Carriage Road to Seemsville Road to Nor-Bath Boulevard, where they can reconnect to Howertown Road.

In other business, supervisors accepted a $219,020 Local Share Account grant for a John Deere backhoe.

The township only applied for $159,900. The board approved a motion to use the residual funds for a new trailer to transport larger equipment, such as the backhoe.

Supervisors next meet 6 p.m. June 27 at the fire department building, 3530 Howertown Road.
