Carl Ellsworth Case

Carl Ellsworth Case, 92, of Whitehall, died June 2, 2023. He was the husband of the late Doris Mae (Bateman) Case for 63 years.

Born in Pen Argyl, he was a son of the late Ellsworth John and Mary Jane (Bonney) Case.

He was a 1948 graduate of Pen Argyl High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Moravian College and a master’s degree from Temple.

He and his wife lived for three years in Washington, N.J., where he began his teaching and coaching careers, before moving to Catasauqua. He was a math teacher and multisport coach at Whitehall High School.

He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fullerton.

He was elected to the Athletic Hall of Fame at both Pen Argyl and Whitehall high schools.

He is survived by four sons, Carl Jr. with Ruth, Jon with Barbara Carlson, Mark with Nancy and Eric with Kelly; a daughter, Cheryl Mill with Robert; 15 grandchildren, Carl III, Kimberly, Evan, Adam, Sara, Matthew, Amy, Elizabeth, Patrick, Michael, Daniel, Jennifer, Josh, Andrew and Aaron; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews and their families.

He was predeceased by a sister, Elma Weber.

There will be a calling hour 9-11 a.m. in the church parlor, followed by a funeral service 11 a.m., June 23 at the church, 575 Grape St., Whitehall, 18052.
