Resolution of case involving needles in food is released by Martin

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin announced June 2 the resolution of a juvenile case involving a former Giant grocery store employee charged with inserting sewing needles into various food items.

The juvenile charged in this matter appeared June 1 in juvenile court and admitted to the allegations, Martin said in a news release.

The matter has been disposed of by the juvenile court and no further information can or will be released because to do so would violate the Juvenile Act, Martin said.

Pennsylvania State Police were called to the Giant at 7150 Hamilton Blvd., Trexlertown, for a report of food tampering on April 19.

An investigation revealed the juvenile put needles in various food items.

On April 24, the juvenile was charged with three counts each of recklessly endangering another person; a misdemeanor of the second degree; and one count of criminal mischief, a summary.

There were no known injuries sustained to customers as a result of this incident.
