The numbers are worth noting.
The Earth Day clean up hosted by the Emmaus and Upper Milford Township Joint Environmental Advisory Council recently announced the day’s haul.
On April 22 volunteers, including township and borough residents, families, friends, service and business groups, students, athletes, Scouts and many others, collected 67 30-gallon bags of trash, 19 30-gallon bags of recyclables, one picnic table and a hub cap from sites in the borough and township, according to a memo from the advisory council.
Plus, 10,885 pounds of electronic waste and 2,011 pounds of paper were gathered via collection sites at Emmaus Community Park.
Volunteers applied their attention and clean up talents to Emmaus Community Park, Furnace Dam Park, the railroad areas near Weis Markets, CVS Pharmacy and Triple Sun Spirits, the walking trail in The Fields at Indian Creek community, Jasper Park, Lenape Park and Fulmer Nature Preserve, according to the memo from the council.
Kudos and thanks to organizers and all who gave of their time, energy and enthusiasm.
Other notable numbers were shared recently by The Seed Farm, Vera Cruz Road.
In a recent newsletter, organizers noted more than 13,000 plants were purchased in their annual spring plant sale May 13 and 14. Moreover, the farm is “on track to donate 1,400 plants to community organizations” throughout the Lehigh Valley, particularly those groups focused on food insecurity and access to fresh produce.
Volunteers again were instrumental to the effort, taking on tasks from potting seedlings in advance of the sale to directing parking and assisting shoppers on sale days.
The fall plant sale at the farm is scheduled Aug. 12 and 13.
