Northampton council talks term limit referendum

Northampton County Council met June 1 to discuss three amendments to the home rule charter.

Each of the three proposed amendments would add a referendum question to the 2023 general election ballot regarding term limits for county council, the executive and the controller.

According to the proposed amendments, county council members would not be able to serve more than three four-year terms in succession. Both the county executive and controller would be limited to two successive terms.

Potential debate and voting will be held at council’s next meeting.

Council also approved a $127,151 LSA grant to be awarded to Recovery Revolution, Bangor.

Executive Director Jana Morris said the money will be used to update its second-floor fire escape, seal its parking lot and update three rooms that are not well used.

County council will next meet 6:30 p.m. June 15 at the county council building, 669 Washington St., Easton.
