Library holds book sale

Whitehall Township Public Library, 3700 Mechanicsville Road, held a book sale April 28 and 29, featuring a steady stream of book seekers. The library used its annual book sale to honor National Library Week, April 23-29.

Patrons who entered the book sale room were greeted by volunteers.

There was a large supply of Giant Foodstore durable paper bags with handles for the bag sale at the event. Patrons stuffed their bags with books. The book pile rapidly shrank as some patrons purchased two and three bags filled with books.

Pat Fried, volunteer and former Whitehall High School chemistry teacher, helped patrons and answered any questions they had. Fried was smiling throughout the sale, as she met and chatted with former students or their parents.

Carol Meyers and Chris Rappaport, both of Whitehall, reconnected at the sale. They chatted about what books they were buying and had a little conversation.

Library volunteer Melissa Sassaman, of Whitehall, assumed the all-important role of cashier, collecting payment from patrons.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.
