It wasn’t the way Bethlehem Catholic wanted their season to end, but that doesn’t mean the future isn’t bright for the Golden Hawks baseball team.
Becahi was overmatched in last Wednesday’s District 11 4A final, losing to Blue Mountain 11-1 in a five-inning mercy rule outing.
Head coach Matt Corsi felt that the championship loss was indicative of other defeats throughout the season during a 14-9 campaign.
“The final summed up our season losses,” he said. “When we lost this season it always started with infield hits, which then lead to some errors. We will bounce back and be ready next year.”
Blue Mountain cranked out 12 hits in the win and pitcher Dylan Sattazahn struck out eight and allowed three hits.
Despite falling short, Corsi was happy to be playing this deep in the season with all the obstacles with injuries the team faced throughout the year.
“Despite all our injuries we still won 14 games,” said Corsi. “This was a good season.
The Hawks graduate seven seniors from the roster, one of which was Beckham McNally, who figured to be one of the Hawks top pitchers, but missed all season with an injury. He came back for the district final and drove in the lone RBI single for the Hawks.
With a large contingent of players returning next season, Corsi knows this experience will only help the team moving forward.
“The experience is invaluable,” Corsi said. “We have sophomores that have been in varsity for two years. I am very excited for the future.”
