The Emmaus High School boys lacrosse team had a rough go of the 2023 postseason this year. After a 12-5 overall record following the regular season and a 7-2 mark in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, the Green Hornets lost both of their postseason games to conclude the year.
They first lost to rival Parkland 16-12 in the EPC semifinal round on May 10, and then had their season come to a close with a close, one-goal defeat to Easton, 12-11, last Thursday night in the District 11 3A quarterfinals at Cottingham Stadium.
Against the EPC champion Red Rovers (16-5 overall) in districts, the Green Hornets (12-7) fell behind 4-2 after the opening quarter and then outscored Easton 4-2 in the second period to tie the game at 6-6 at halftime. Emmaus then went on top 8-7 early in the third, but the Red Rovers scored three in-a-row to finish off the third quarter and then added two straight in the fourth to take a 12-9 advantage.
It was the second meeting between the two teams this year with Easton also winning the other game during the regular season, 12-6, back on April 25th.
Aidan Garrett led Emmaus with a team-high four goals, while Will Barber, who finished the year with a league-high 75 goals, recorded two tallies and four assists. John Hughes tallied two goals and one assist. Each of Liam Rooney, Kaleb Mains and Jack Restino recorded one goal. Sam Rainford finished with 12 saves in goal for Emmaus.
Sean Wilson had a game-high five goals for Easton. Shae Linegar and Cael DiSora both had two goals and Jhamir Logan, Matt Deliso and Carter Youtz all ended with one goal apiece.
The Green Hornets were looking for their third district championship in the last five seasons.
