Lower Macungie Township zoning officer announces retirement

At the May 4 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, it was announced Carl Best, the township’s zoning officer, is retiring. Deputy Director for Zoning Vince Tranguch was nominated and approved to be the zoning officer for the township.

Resolution 2023-28 was approved allowing disposition of township records. Records to be disposed are insurance claims and policies from 2012 and before, board of commissioner reports from 2016 and before, accounts payable 2016 and before, revenue from 2016 and before, general fund bank reports 2016 and before and public works complaints from 2016 and before.

Streetlights for Mountain View Estates (Elbow Lane) were approved. The township will create a streetlight district and authorize an outdoor light service order.

Jim Schwartz from AARP wrote a letter of thanks for use of the Wescosville Recreation Center during tax season. This is the location where seniors could seek tax advice for free. The township offered the site free of charge.

The board considered and awarded the contract for the community center improvements which includes an upgrade to the rain garden.

An easement agreement was approved for the Wolbach subdivision which involves properties held by Miller, Brader and Ronco.

The campus pickleball court project and skate park was considered and approved. Costars, a pavement maintenance contractor, will do the work in the amount of $213,460.

A contract with Randy Rhoades was approved to analyze the township pension plan.

Thanks was extended to all those that participated in the Community Day event. It was very successful.

An executive session was held after the April 24 workshop to discuss personnel issues.
