Hornets fall to Kids in first round

The Emmaus softball team entered the postseason last week with an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference quarterfinal game against Northampton.

The No. 4 seed Hornets lost 5-1 to the No. 5 seed Kids last Thursday.

Northampton (16-5) put up a run in the second inning and two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Emmaus (14-7) responded with one run in the bottom of the third, but it was the only run the Hornets scored in the game.

Northampton, which benefited from seven Emmaus errors, added two runs in the sixth.

The Hornets’ Daria Krout went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the game, while Brianna Amey also went 2-for-4.

Pitcher Autumn Held allowed five hits and just one earned run while striking out six batters.

The Hornets are eliminated from the league playoffs with the loss, but they are qualified for the District 11 Class 6A playoffs. They are third in the District 11 rankings, but could drop to fourth depending on the outcome of the league tournament. The league champion will be the top seed.

Northampton advanced to face top seed Whitehall in the semifinals. No. 2 seed Freedom and No. 3 Nazareth squared off in the other semifinal.
