Whitehall’s track and field team clinched three individual medals at the Eastern Pennsylvania Track and Field Championships on May 9 and 10 at Whitehall High School.
Whitehall sophomore Tommy Lloyd placed second in javelin, up from a fourth-place finish in last year’s meet.
“I thank God first, and I thank my parents, and I also thank my coaches because they teach me all the technique, and I really can’t thank them enough,” Lloyd said. “My coaches told me to go fast and don’t think about it too much, and I did exactly what they said.”
Lloyd’s silver-medal-winning throw was also a personal record with a distance of 179-05.
The Zephyr sophomore was a state qualifier last year and is attempting a repeat this week at the District XI meet.
“I’m just gonna work as hard as I can to make it to states, and I’m gonna try my best,” he said.
Ian Thomas, a junior, won a fourth-place medal in high jump with a height of 6-01.00.
Senior Vinson Eggleston was fourth in the 400 meter dash despite a trip and fall at the finish line.
“I lost my balance, and I dropped. I got too high on my toes a little bit, and I dropped a little bit, but that’s fine because next week, we’re gonna make it better,” Eggleston said. “Once you get to that back stretch, it’s all about keeping your form because once you get to that area, a lot of people start to break down a little bit. Of course, I was starting to get tired, but overall, I was feeling good.”
Eggleston’s time was 51.21.
“I feel like it’s a great honor,” he said, “and we’re gonna do it again next week.”
Vinson Eggleston won the fourth place medal in the 400 meter dash at the EPC Track and Field Championships on May 10.
Tommy Lloyd was the runner-up in the javelin throw at the EPC Track and Field Championships on May 10.
