Ruth B. Zanders
Ruth B. Zanders, 93, a longtime resident of Allentown, died peacefully on May 14, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bruce W. Zanders, in 1971.
Born in Seiples Station on Halloween 1929, she was the daughter of the late Ralph C. and Hattie R. (Derhammer) Weidner.
She was a duplication technician for Lehigh County for 37 years.
In the 1960s, she and her husband owned and operated Donut King bakery, Allentown, and the Pennsylvania House, Walnutport, in the 1950s.
She attended Allentown High School and was a lifelong member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whitehall.
She was well known for her cookies which she enjoyed baking and sharing each year at Christmas.
She enjoyed going to music concerts and the adventure of traveling throughout this country having walked on a glacier and a volcano.
She loved spending a day of shopping with her daughters and going to the movies with her son.
A very caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed by her loving family.
Her survivors include sons B. Ted and his wife, Sandy, of Shillington, and Dennis of Palmerton; daughters Suzanne Miller, wife of the late David, of Lehighton and Penny and her husband, Tom Zuber, of Orefield; brother Richard Weidner and his wife, Valance, of Northampton; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four nephews; and four nieces.
She is predeceased by sisters Helen Schaffer and Doris Brezack, both of Allentown.
Services, officiated by the Rev. Peggy Wuertele, will be 11 a.m. May 20 in Gilbert Funeral Home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall, where her family will receive guests at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow in St. John’s Union Cemetery, Mickleys, Whitehall.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
