Public Library of Catasauqua: Summer reading is here
Well, it’s undoubtedly summer weather - warm and sunny, pleasant to sit out or walk in the park or garden or play sports.
It’s also time to get ready for summer reading at your library!
Our summer reading program theme this year is “All Together Now!”
We are all together on this Earth, and so we decided to use the theme to find out about others who live here, too. Some are neighbors, and some are far away.
We are going to focus on different countries, visiting virtually to find out how people live and work. We are going to read stories about different lands and traditions and try our hand at making some of the crafts from those countries.
We would love for you to join us. Amy will lead the younger children on their adventures, and Kath will challenge the older students to have a go at some amazing crafts while everyone learns about different traditions and people.
The younger children are up to second grade, and the older children are third grade to teens.
Both programs are held 3-4 p.m. Thursdays. There is no program July 6.
Amy’s group will be planting succulents June 22, making posters for “Strictly No Elephants” June 29, a rainbow craft for “Egyptian Cinderella” July 13, Mexican painting and flowers for “Love and Roast Chicken” July 20 and making carp kites for “Issun Boshi, the Inchling” July 27.
Kath’s group will be planting succulents June 22; weaving a basket June 29, making a plaster relief July 13, Mexican tin art July 20 and drawing anime and decorating Kokeshi dolls July 27.
Oogies ice cream truck will be at the library to give free ice cream to the program participants Aug. 3.
Please register as soon as you can; forms are available at the library.
