The Emmaus girls track and field program ended a fine regular season last Tuesday afternoon with a loss at Parkland High School to the Trojans, 94-55.
The defeat dropped the Green Hornets record to 8-1. Parkland won the EPC South title and went to 8-0 with the win.
Emmaus sprinters and runners were able to secure a few wins, but collectively were not as effective as in other meets this season. One runner who is always a champion is the great Hailey Reinhard. She won the 800-meter race in 2:21.12 and the 3,200-meter in 12:03.91. Another Hornet runner who looked strong was Madelyn McCartney, who claimed the 1,600. The relay teams were unable to contribute to the cause, losing all three races, but Hornet fans had reason to cheer Kayla-Rayne Quinones, who won the 100-meter hurdles.
In the field events Sheldyne Pierre won the high jump, while Catherine Sirignano took the discus.
Up next for Emmaus is the EPC championship scheduled for May 9 and 10 at Whitehall High School.
“We look for our girls to continue to improve in the postseason with some refinement,” Emmaus coach Kami Reinhard said. “We could throw in a few surprises, if everyone is able to return healthy.”
