Moore votes to vacate road

The Moore Township Board of Supervisors met April 4 about the potential of closing or fixing Trach Road.

Two farmers whose fields are adjacent to the road offered a rationale for keeping the road in its current form with some upgrades to the road to enhance safety. Township Engineer Kevin Horvath was charged to evaluate and estimate costs to address the options.

Horvath said vacating the road could cost $89,000. The estimate to restore and remediate the road could be about $125,000, with an annual maintenance cost of about $2,700.

Horvath and township Manager Nicholas Steiner noted Northampton County may be able to assist in receiving grant funding for the road under certain conditions. However, the township must make a decision before the county would offer any assistance.

The supervisors voted 3-0 to begin the process of vacating Trach Road.
