Moore supervisors plan public hearing June 22

At the May 2 Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting, the board set up a public hearing about the vacating of Trach Road. The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 22 at the township municipal building, 2491 Community Drive.

A final draft ordinance was prepared by township Solicitor David Backenstoe in anticipation of the requested hearing.

The road appears to be a rural, low-traveled road that has two farms adjacent to it. Both farmers have been present during discussions to advocate for their positions on vacating or having the township maintain the road.

Backenstoe noted the hearing could stimulate a series of appeals and possible legal action that may take months or more to resolve.

In other business, police Chief Gary West reported there were 356 incidents involving police in April. There were five arrests - three driving under the influence and two simple assaults. West added the department’s “speed trailer” was repaired and is being used in the community to slow traffic.

Jason Harhart provided the fire and ambulance reports for April. There were 23 fire calls that included three fires and six motor vehicle accidents. There were 68 ambulance calls.

The public works department reported patching roads and filling potholes has begun. Supervisors approved Al Hawk’s promotion to fill the full-time municipal laborer position, and David Flick was hired to fill the municipal worker position.

Township Manager Nicholas C. Steiner reported a grant request was successful with East Allen Township in the amount of $266,000. It was submitted last year for the shared purchase of a road paver and trailer. The cost of the equipment has increased $17,000 since the submission. The increased cost will be shared with East Allen Township.

In Backenstoe’s report, he said a draft agreement with Blue Ridge Cable Television is ready for adoption. The agreement provides 5% of the company’s gross revenues for cable service in the township will be paid to the township.

The supervisors passed resolution 2023-12, approving a lot-line adjustment for the Whitetail Farm View Deed of Dedication. All resolutions and ordinances are available for review by contacting the township office.

Under old business, Steiner said the 2023 seal coat projects in the township will be done by the Asphalt Maintenance Solutions LLC of Emmaus for $244,000, if approved by the supervisors. The supervisors approved the request. A list of the roads being addressed is available from the township office.

The historical commission is planning its 2023 Octoberfest event. The date is set for 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Klecknersville Fire Company.

It was also reported there have been 15 school houses in Moore Township. The commission plans to place markers at the locations of the former school houses. Details are being worked out with the commission, property owners and the township.

The next Moore Township supervisors meeting is 6 p.m. June 6 at the municipal building. It is an in-person only meeting.
