Community enjoys night out at park
North Catasauqua residents enjoyed the borough’s annual Community Night Out, held May 11 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.
The activity-filled event was organized by the borough police department.
Members from Catasauqua and North Catasauqua’s fire departments, Pennsylvania State Police, Lehigh County Special Operations and Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission were scattered throughout the park with equipment and vehicles on display for residents to take an inside peek.
Event attendees also enjoyed food and sweet treats from vendor trucks that lined Grove Street. Red Robin and Kona Ice had long lines throughout the night, while others also enjoyed home-cooked food from the parks and recreation committee’s snack stand.
After grabbing some dinner and sweets, residents took a stroll by craft vendors and a basket raffle, where various prizes and homemade items were being auctioned off.
A major attraction was the landing of a Lehigh Valley Health Network MedEvac helicopter in the middle of the park’s field. Staff members cleared the area and, within minutes, the air transit emergency vehicle landed and opened its doors for everyone to take a glance inside the medical transport.
A K-9 unit demonstration followed. Members from Lower Saucon Police Department, Lehigh County and Northampton County Sheriff’s Office brought K-9 members Boomer, Titus and Otto for the crowd to observe.
The show included the K-9s finding stashed narcotics, practicing commands and taking down a decoy. The show was captivating and allowed a glance into a world often saved for trained first responders.
The community-centric event brought in a large crowd. Deejay Freddie Frederick Jr. and live music from Third Hand Trio kept the momentum going and the energy high while bouncy houses and balloon animal attractions kept the children engaged.
