Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Bittner, 89, of Fogelsville, died peacefully April 27, 2023, with family next to her.
Born Jan. 17, 1934, in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Katie Smith and James Wenner.
She was a 1951 graduate of Slatington High School where she met her husband, Paul H. Bittner.
They married in 1951 and had 58 years together before his death in 2009.
They worked on their farm in Germansville, raising animals and crops, along with the help of their young family.
She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid reader, which is what led her to work in the Northwestern Lehigh Elementary Library for nine years.
With an aptitude for numbers, she later worked at H&R Block for more than 30 years.
She touched the lives of many and will be missed dearly by family and friends.
Her survivors include children Kay Finch and husband, Benton, of Richmond, Texas, Karl Bittner and wife, Valerie, of Bethlehem, and Larry Bittner and wife, Connie, of New Tripoli; grandchildren Matthew, Amanda, Hannah, Sarah, Adam, Derrell and Melinda; and 14 great-grandchildren; a sister; brother; sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Her memorial Service will be 11 a.m. May 5 in Heidelberg Union Church, 5187 Irvin Road, Heidelberg Township.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Interment at the church cemetery.
