“Two Sundays ago, there was a barn fire up on Beck Road. I got a phone call late at night to get my excavator to kind of help get some stuff underground. And I just really want to say again that I don’t think that we ever really understand how much these guys kind of put (to) the side when these fires happen.”
“I did want to thank them. I thanked them on Facebook. I want to thank them again,” Supervisor John Zgura explained during the Upper Milford Supervisors’ May 4 meeting.
According to Zgura, nine fire departments came out on April 23 to help Vera Cruz Fire Department battle a two-alarm blaze.
The barn was built in 1835 and, according to Zgura, had belonged to his family since the 1920s.
Supervisor Chair Joyce Moore said, “I’m grateful for the turnout at the barn fire. I’m really grateful that nobody got hurt.”
The date of the supervisors’ meeting and topic coincided with International Firefighters Day.
It is a day to remember firefighters who died serving their community.
With the passing of New Tripoli firefighters Marvin Gruber and Zachary Paris just a few months ago, May 4 was even more poignant this year for firefighters in the Lehigh Valley.
