North Catasauqua: Police department’s Community Night Out to be held May 11

North Catasauqua Police Department’s Community Night Out is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. May 11 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. The rain date is May 12.

Enjoy a night out with your friends, family and the community with activities and fun for everyone. There will be live music, games, three bounce houses, a dunk tank, DUI simulator, rock wall, raffle table, corn hole and food vendors.

Local and nonprofit organizations and government agencies will include Lehigh and Northampton counties’ Emergency Services, Special Operations Unit, EMS, Pennsylvania State Police, every branch of the U.S. military, Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission and more.

There will be something for every age group and kids of all ages.

The next North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting is planned for May 15 in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St.

Catasauqua Garden Club is holding its plant sale 9 a.m.-noon May 20 at the Public Library of Catasauqua, 302 Bridge St. The Friends of the Library group will be holding a bake sale and food sale at this event.

Plant donations are welcome before the sale.

Catty Seniors Plus will meet May 24 at Slovak Center Social Club, 1223 Fifth St. Doors open noon, and the meeting starts 1 p.m.

This month is the summer picnic. You had to sign up in order to attend the luncheon.

Don’t forget to bring your item for the veterans in the nursing homes and the homeless veterans from the VA in Wilkes-Barre. This month, items are a wrapped bar of soap or a pair of white socks.

After the luncheon, bingo will take place.

State Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, would like residents to be aware three new military-themed license plates are now available from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The plates include an Air Medal license plate, Afghanistan and Iraq veterans license plate and Blue Star Family license plate.

Applicants for the Air Medal plate and the Afghanistan and Iraq veterans plates must submit a completed form MV-150, along with a legible photocopy of their DD214. The Air Medal plate contains the standard Pennsylvania license plate colors and depicts an image of the Air Medal.

The Afghanistan and Iraq veterans plate is offered only to veterans who served in both theaters of operation. The license plate contains the standard Pennsylvania license plate colors and depicts images of both the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Operation Iraqi Freedom Medal.

Applicants for the Blue Star Family plate must submit a completed Form MV-920 and certify they are a family member of an active-duty, Reserve or National Guard service member. The license plate contains the standard Pennsylvania license plate colors and depicts an image of the Blue Star Family flag, which has a red border around a white background with a blue star in the center.

All are available for passenger cars or trucks with a registered gross weight of no more than 14,000 pounds for a fee.

Congratulations and good luck to borough Treasurer Annette Englert on her retirement. Englert retired April 28 after holding the borough treasurer position for many years.
