Trojans top Patriots, Red Rovers

The Parkland High School boys lacrosse team had one of its most important weeks of the 2023 regular season last week. The Trojans faced off against two of the top four teams in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference in back-to-back games, and they came out on top in both, giving them plenty of momentum heading into a postseason push next week.

Parkland remained undefeated in the conference by defeating Freedom at home, 12-8, last Tuesday, April 25, and then went on the road and played Easton inside Cottingham Stadium last Thursday, winning 14-9.

Both teams ranked in the top four in the conference as the Red Rovers were third and the Patriots fourth.

Against the Patriots, Chase Kusko led all scorers, finishing with a game-high five goals and three assists for eight points. Parker Kusko was not far behind his brother, recording a hat trick with three goals and adding an assist.

Drew Filipovits tallied two goals and two assists. Jacob Parker and Anthony Schultz rounded out the scoring for Parkland with a goal each.

The Trojans jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against the Red Rovers and were up 6-1 after the opening quarter. But Easton answered with four straight goals to cut its deficit to 6-5. That was the closest that Parkland would allow the Rovers to get the rest of the way. Schultz and Parker Kusko led the way for the Trojans offense, each finishing with three goals.

Parkland was 13-2 overall and 8-0 in the conference with two games left on the schedule. The Trojans entered Tuesday’s game against Emmaus as the only unbeaten team left in the league. They finish the season with a nonleague game against Northwestern Lehigh Thursday. The EPC tournament begins next week.
