Salisbury tennis competes in tourneys
The Salisbury boys tennis team began postseason play two weeks ago and will continue this week.
The Falcons played in the Colonial League Championships on April 20 to open the postseason. A few Falcon players competed in District 11 singles and doubles action last week and the team will also play in this week’s district team event.
Nolan Grejda was the No. 6 seed in the league tournament’s No. 1 singles bracket. He dropped his opening match 8-2 to Fred Koch of Moravian Academy.
At No. 2 singles, the Falcons’ Ian Young was the No. 10 seed and won a play-in match, 8-6 over Mason Beers (Pen Argyl, before falling to No. 2 seed Eric Wu (Saucon Valley), 8-3.
Salisbury’s Jacob Knerr played in the No. 3 singles bracket at leagues and lost his opening match to No. 5 Tyler Hager of Palmerton, 8-4.
Ahmed Suleiman and Blaine Berger represented the Falcons in the No. 1 singles bracket at leagues. They opened with a play-in round win over the 10th seeded duo from Wilson, 6-1. They fell to Saucon Valley’s Nagy and Wu, 8-1 in the next round.
Salisbury’s Mohammad Suleiman and Connor Leavy won their play-in round match against a pairing from Notre Dame, 6-2. They met the top seeded doubles team and fell 8-0 in the next round.
Grejda was the only Falcon to qualify for the district singles tournament. The junior was the ninth seed and lost a tight opening-round match to No. 8 seed Justin Sebelin of Palmerton, 7-5, 6-4 last Monday, April 24.
Three days later two Falcon teams entered the district doubles tournament and lost their opening matches.
Mohammad Suleiman and Jackson Kramp fell to the No. 5 seeded team from Moravian Academy, 6-2, 6-2. Ahmed Suleiman and Berger took on the top seeded doubles teams and fell 6-0, 6-0.
The Falcons qualified for the district team tournament as the No. 5 seed in Class 2A. They took on No. 2 Lehighton Tuesday in the first round.
The winner of that match will face top-seeded Moravian Academy on Wednesday.
