The Parkland girls track and field team continued its outstanding season with two victories last week. The Trojans beat Bethlehem Catholic 141-9 and Liberty 138-32 last Monday and Wednesday, respectively, to improve to 7-0.
Naeema Salau continued her fine season with victories in the 100-meter and 200-meter races against the Hurricanes. Lucy Tobia won the 400, while Gracie Trexler took the 800 run. Elena Wenger took the 1,600 and Lana Hurwitz was tops in the 3,200. Emily Hoysan claimed the 300 hurdles. The Trojans also won the 400 relay race.
In the field events Lauren Ervin won the high jump, while Catherine Crampton took the long jump and the triple jump. Bella Dauberman has impressed this season and she had good performances in claiming the discus and javelin, while Claire Eberhardt won the shot put.
With the regular season nearing its conclusion, Parkland coach Stephen Ott said the health of his athletes is his among his top priorities.
“The regular season is important, yet our student-athletes know it is a build toward the postseason,” Ott said. “The goal is for peak performances at the EPC league, District 11 and PIAA state meet. The main goal is to make sure everyone is healthy, positive and feeling fresh going into the postseason.
The girls team has already a successful season no matter what happens in the season finale set for May 2 against Emmaus.
“It is a team effort,” Ott said. “The bottom line is that we have a bunch of individuals that have to step up as a team in order to win.”
