Allentown Band free ‘Side by Side Concert’ with student musicians

The Allentown Band presents its annual “Side by Side Concert,” 4 p.m. May 7, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown.

The concert is free and open to the public. Tickets are required.

Each Spring since 2005, The Allentown Band has presented a “Side by Side Concert” with approximately 50 high school musicians of exceptional abilities performing in a concert, seated adjacent with members of the Allentown Band.

The Allentown Band’s 2023 “Side by Side Concert” will feature soloist Omri Barak, Principal Trumpet, Allentown Symphony Orchestra.

The program will be conducted by Allentown Band Conductor Ronald Demkee and guest conductor Major Ryan Nowlin, Assistant Conductor, United States Marine Band, “The President’s Own.”

The Allentown Band will be joined by top high school musicians from the Lehigh Valley for the second part of the program.

Participating student musicians are selected based on their talents and recommendations of their band directors.

The concert program features the music of American composers John Williams, Percy Grainger, Leroy Anderson, James Curnow, Ryan Nowlin and John Philip Sousa.
