Two Trojans tie for win at Ship

The Parkland boys track and field program turned in some quality performances last Saturday in the Shippensburg Roddick High School Invitational at Shippensburg University.

Dylan Simon and Evan McCracken were awesome in tying for first place in the 100-meter dash with 10.58 times. Andrew Beers toasted a silver finish in the 110 hurdles in 14.53. The Trojans’ 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams also had strong performances, earning second-place finishes out of 22 and 27 schools, respectively. In the field events, Conor Johns looked good in claiming a second-place finish.

Earlier in the week the Trojans hammered Whitehall, 131-19. The win surged the Parkland record to 5-0.

Parkland coach Stephen Ott said depth is a major factor behind his team’s perfect record.

“It is a team effort,” Ott said. “Our staff stresses that to each area. I think our team supports and encourages each other. As a team, not only is winning an event important, but also the second and third place points help to get the team victory. The biggest area of growth is in the field with throws and jumps.”

Over time, this attitude adds up.

“Each week they improve and get better,” Ott said. “That strengthens our team. This is not mean to take anything away from our sprints and distance. They are improving as well. Bottom line is that we have a bunch of individuals that have to step up to win dual meets.”

The Trojans will battle Bethlehem Catholic on April 24 and Liberty two days later.
