LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

PHS girls lacrosse beats SV, Northampton

The Parkland High School girls lacrosse team needed the week that it had last week.

Entering the week having dropped five of their last six games, the Trojans were poised to have a breakout week and they did just that, winning both of the games they played in.

Parkland held on late to defeat Saucon Valley in nonconference action, 11-9, last Tuesday, April 18, on the road. The Trojans followed that up two nights later with an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory on their home turf over Northampton, 22-10.

Against the Panthers, Gigi Leonzi paced the offensive attack with a game-high five goals and one assist. Hannah Car also had a multi-goal night with four goals and four assists for a team-best eight points. Ella Esteban and Riley Santa-Anna both finished with one goal and one assist. Milla Hahn and Sara Filipovitz each contributed an assist in the game. Hailey Smith made five saves in net.

Saucon Valley had two players with hat tricks in Riley Lannon and Sophie Engelhardt, Hannah Robertson had two, while Kasey Royse rounded out the scoring with a goal.

Parkland had a bit of an easier time in its other game and led from start to finish in taking down Northampton at home. Seven different players found the back of the net in the victory, led by a career-high 12 goals from Leonzi. She also had three assists for a 15-point game.

Taryn Poremba netted a hat trick with three goals and both Esteban and Santa-Anna recorded two goals. Car, Hahn and Addison Winfield all tallied a goal with Car adding two assists. Morgan Dobil contributed an assist and Smith stopped four shots in net.

Ella Steirer led the Kids with five goals and Brianna Gora had four. Lauren Keznick tallied the lone other goal.

The Trojans are 5-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Parkland has another two-game week this week. It went to play Freedom this past Tuesday and hosts Easton Thursday night.
