Northampton: Introducing the new Northampton Borough weekly columnist
Hi, everybody! I’ll be taking over this community column, and I just want to say hello.
I’ve lived in the Northampton area for more than 25 years now and have worked with the Northampton Press for about three years.
I look forward to hearing from all of you who would like to send in your community events.

This month’s distributions at Northampton Area Food Bank, 1601 Canal St., will be 9-11:30 a.m. May 4, 11 and 18 and 5-7 p.m. May 13 and 20.
The postal food drive is May 13. Put out items for pickup by postal employees.
The food bank will be closed May 29.
To register, bring a photo ID with a current address, or photo ID and a utility bill or lease with the correct address. Registration can be done 9-11:30 a.m. Wednesday mornings.
You should reside in Northampton Area School District. There are some exceptions. You will need the names of everyone living with you full time.

Items currently needed by the food bank include canned and dried potatoes; canned corn; soup; canned chicken, beef stew, pork products or Spam; feminine products; diapers; and baby wipes.
The best time to drop off items is 8:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Northampton Farmers Market will open for the season 3-6:30 p.m. May 9 at Municipal Park, Laubach Ave.
Many of the same vendors will be there, as well as a few new ones. Organizers are still accepting vendor applications.

The market will be open every Tuesday until September.

The Rev. Patrick Lamb and members of Catholic War Veterans Post 454 will host a prayer service 7 p.m. May 9 at Queenship of Mary Church, 1324 Newport Ave.
The service will “address the needs of individuals wishing to express spiritual and social solidarity concerning increased drug and alcohol addiction, mental illness, PTSD and those still suffering from the effects of the pandemic.”
It is open to all.

Holy Trinity Nursery School, 1235 Main St., is currently registering for the 2023-24 school year.
The 2-year-old playgroup class will meet 9:30-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Class size is limited to 12 children. Children do not need to be toilet trained for this class.
The 3-year-old class meets 9-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class size is limited to 16 children. Children need to be toilet trained for this class.
The 4-year-old class meets 12:15-2:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Class size is limited to 16 children. Children need to be toilet trained for this class.
Children must turn the appropriate age for the class by Sept. 1.

Wheels on the Canal car show will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 20 at Canal Street Park, 1400 Canal Street.
The rain date is set for May 21.
Proceeds benefit Mission 22 and Blue Star Mothers. The event will include a craft and vendor fair.
