At the May 1 Macungie Borough Council meeting, Borough Engineer Stan Wojciechowski updated council on the status of the Church Street and Hickory Street Bridge projects. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is allowing the borough to seek qualifications for engineers. No discussion of money involved occurs during this step.
The crosswalk project was discussed. Crosswalks are proposed for the Race Street area, the area in front of the church, at Lea Street and Poplar Street.
Race Street has a drainage problem where it intersects with Route 100. This is also being discussed with PennDOT.
A resident has requested a waiver in their sewer bills due to draining a pool and refilling it to replace their pool liner. Similar situations have occurred in the past. Council has suggested turning this over to Lehigh County Authority.
Kyle Bernhard was sworn in as a full-time police officer for the Borough of Macungie. Mayor Ron Conrad administered the oath. Bernhard’s wife and daughter witnessed the event, along with his brother, Todd Bernhard, a police officer in Macungie.
The Church Street sidewalk project is moving forward. The first batch of letters to residents will be sent out shortly.
An engineering firm has been called in to correct the water problem with Stone Hill Meadows. Water has become a problem on Willow Street and at Allen Organ. The engineering firm is working with Lower Macungie Township and Macungie Borough.
The water runs down the hill behind the development and ends up at Allen Organ and Willow Street. Water was to be directed to drain under the development then into a swale near Allen Organ. Further clarification is needed for any proposed solutions.
There was an executive session held for real estate, legal matters and personnel.
