Hanover, Lehigh County, manager lauds long-term staff

At the April 19 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, township Manager Melissa A. Wehr lauded the exceptional, dedicated staff who work for the township.

Wehr pointed out a number of employees have been working for the township for more than 20 years.

On hand to receive the accolades were Vicki Roth, township clerk and tax collector, who has been with the township 35 years, and Josef A. Fragnito, public works director and maintenance supervisor, who has been with the township for 22 years.

Other staff, Wehr noted, are also multiyear employees.

“We have a great place to work and great friends. It’s just great to be here,” Wehr said.

She said she appreciates working with what she considers a special group of people.

“I love working here,” Wehr added.

Council Chairman Bruce Paulus agreed with Wehr that the employee team does an excellent job for the residents. Other council members endorsed Wehr’s testimony.

In other business, Wehr reported Lehigh Valley International Airport had the highest number of passengers use the airport since 2004. The airport has experienced upgrades that improve the passenger experience.

Wehr noted the township currently needs a code enforcement officer. Call the township office to apply.

She said the township is also seeking two college-bound students to work 30 hours per week in the township public works department to help cut grass, paint and more. Apply at the township office or at hanleco.org.

Wehr also reported the township received a third-place commendation for its township newsletter from the Pennsylvania State Association of Townships. She said the award received was one of 16 overall awards that had 111 entries.

Council held a public hearing about the township pollutant reduction plan. This hearing was brief. Keystone Engineering noted all the projects in the plan are budgeted.

Council passed Resolution 2023-37 to appoint Sarah Kupchick to the township recreation commission.

Councilman Robert Heimbecker requested a letter be sent to the township emergency responders.

“Send a letter to thank emergency responders to reach out to them that they are not alone,” Paulus said.

The next council meeting is set for 7 p.m. May 17 at the township building, 2202 Grove Road. It is an in-person meeting only.
