LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Go fish!

“I got one” was the phrase of the day at the Monocacy Creek in Bath Borough during the Bath Area Fish Committee’s kids fishing derby.

It was well attended despite the weather.

The derby started April 29 and concluded 3 p.m. April 30. Twenty trout were tagged, and catching a tagged fish won young anglers a prize.

As of Saturday afternoon, 12 tagged fish were caught.

Ryan McCullough, his brother Malcolm and sister MacKensie, of Bath Borough, caught near the limit of fish, but none were tagged. They hoped to reel in a tagged fish at some point and were clearly having fun in the light rain and muddy conditions. They proudly posed with the fish they caught.

Kendall Kratzer, Jayla Celestine and Keondre Lewis, of Bath, braved the rain as they showed the fish they caught. Kyle Kratzer, of Easton, was with them.

Bath resident Arabelle Pachioli was delighted to pose with a brown trout she caught. She was near the limit for the day and evidently enjoying herself.

Light food and refreshments were served throughout the derby.

The Bath Area Fish Committee was founded in 1954. Pete Lalik, fish committee treasurer, was at the committee clubhouse behind the Bath Republican Club on Chestnut Street in Bath. He said the committee has held the kids fishing derby for 70 years.

The Bath Area Fish Committee is seeking volunteers and donations to keep the organization viable. Send donations to the Bath Area Fish Committee, P.O. Box 143, Bath, 18014. To become a volunteer, call Lalik at 610-730-6737.
