Faith Strong
Faith Strong, 84, of Coplay, died March 29, 2023, following a long illness.
Born in Aliquippa, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Eugene Strong Sr. and. Sarah Strong.
She started studying piano, organ, voice, arranging and writing music at the age of 5. She attended the Bethlehem Conservatory of Music. She studied with music teachers Miss Fitch of Liberty High School and Mr. Snyder, both of Bethlehem.
She worked for Western Electric, Allentown, until she retired. She was a part of the W.E. Pioneers.
She assisted her sister, the Rev. Jean Strong, with her ministry at the Second Traditional Missionary Baptist Church, Bethlehem, from 2003 until its closing in 2013.
She was one of four conductors of the 1,000 voice choir performing in Bethlehem’s 250th anniversary Bethlehem Sings concerts at Stabler Arena.
A musician, singer and songwriter, she was, at age 9, the youngest musician ever elected to a position at Second Baptist Church, Bethlehem. She played for the Community Gospel Chorus of Bethlehem; The Zionetts and Pearls of Joy of Allentown and St. James AME Zion church choirs; and for concerts and cantatas for the Central Baptist Association under the direction of Esther M. Lee of Bethlehem.
She was a part of the former Strong Sisters musical group, now the Strong Sisters Plus One since her niece Patricia joined.
She recorded “You’ll Never Walk Alone” with evangelist Rosie Wallace Brown, First Church of Love, Faith and Deliverance, Philadelphia.
She is survived by a sister, Ella O. Capers and her husband Michael Capers of Coplay; two nephews, Michael II of Coplay and Gregory Adam Strong of Allentown; three nieces, Patricia of Coplay, Melissa of Northampton and Sarah Grasty of Florida; and David Strong and wife Nicole Strong of Easton; great-nieces; and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, June and May Strong, in infancy; a brother, Eugene Strong Jr.; the Rev. Jean Strong; and Gregory Strong.
