Barber gets 200th point in win over Pates

The Emmaus High School boys lacrosse team had one of its most important weeks of the 2023 regular season last week and it was a successful one. The Green Hornets won all three of their games last week, two of which came in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play.

Emmaus defeated Freedom 12-5 last Tuesday, April 18, handing the Patriots their first loss of the season and amassing revenge after they sent the Green Hornets home last year in the District 11 quarterfinals before winning the title. Emmaus then beat defending District 11 2A champ Central Catholic, 14-8, Thursday before taking down Boyertown on Saturday.

Against Freedom, Emmaus jumped on top early, scoring six goals in the first quarter and allowing just one. The teams scored two goals each in the second and third quarters and then the Green Hornets outscored them 2-0 in the final frame.

John Hughes led the attack with a game-high six goals. Will Barber finished with six points (four goals and two assists) and eclipsed the 200-career point mark. Ashton Fehr tallied two goals and Michael Restino added a goal and an assist. Liam Rooney contributed two assists. Sam Rainford finished with 15 saves.

Emmaus continued its winning ways with an important victory over Central. Six different players scored goals, including six by Rooney, three by Barber, two from Fehr and one each out of Restino, Hughes and Aidan Garrett. The Green Hornets had a strong second quarter, outscoring the Vikings 7-2 to take a 10-3 lead at halftime. Rainford finished with 14 saves.

Emmaus scored nine goals in a winning effort over Boyertown as Barber tallied six, Hughes netted two and Fehr contributed one. Rainford stopped 22 shots in net.

The Hornets are 8-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference. They hosted Southern Lehigh in nonconference play Monday and then Easton on Tuesday to start a busy week. Emmaus is then at Northwestern on Thursday night before welcoming Central Bucks East Saturday morning.
