NEW SUPERINTENDENT: Dr. Jack Silva has been named the next Superintendent of Shools Dr. Jack Silva was awarded a five-year contract.
STUDENT OF THE WEEK: Aubrey Rodriguez is the BASD Student of the Week. Aubrey is in the fourth grade at Freemansburg ES. Aubrey’s poem won first place in the elementary school category of the 18th annual Lehigh Valley Press Student Poetry Project.
STAFF MEMBER OF THE WEEK: Kristina Fontanez is the BASD Staff Member of the Week. She is a third grade teacher at Donegan ES. “Ms. Fontanez is a positive, driven, student-centered educator who always sees the best in her students and looks for new techniques and strategies to engage, support and find success for her students.”
#BUILTBYBETHLEHEM PERSON OF THE WEEK: Tim Bream is the BASD #Builtbybethlehem Person of the week. Mr. Bream is an alumni of Freedom HS. He is the director of sales and marketing and the owner of Global Expeditions and Lehigh Valley Printing.
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK: The First Week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week.
MAY SCHOOL CLOSED DAYS: Election Day is Tuesday, May 16. All BASD schools will be closed. All BASD schools will also be closed on Memorial Day, May 29.
SECONDARY SCHOOLS
BASD FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS: BASD seniors, the Foundation for the BASD still has a dozen applications for scholarships available on their website. Visit https://basdwpweb.beth.k12.pa.us/thefoundation/scholarships/
NORTHEAST MS WELCOME NIGHT: Families of current fifth graders are welcome for a tour of the school, a review of opportunities for your child for next school year, to meet members of our students body and faculty, and even have a chance to win some Northeast MS school gear! Food and refreshments will be served, May 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
NATIONAL HISTORY DAY AWARDS: Eight students from East Hills MS brought home awards: Amira Khellwan, Jillian Durnin, Lily Campbell, Oliva Caleca and Katherine Ryer won fourth place in the Junior Performance category with their entry “Onward and Upward We Go: Frontiers in the Women’s Sufferage Movement.” Kevin Chen, Michael Gerra and Kayden Amick won fourth place in the Group Website category with their entry “Roving Across the Frontier of Space.”
FREEDOM ART SHOW: Freedom HS will hold its art show at 5:30 p.m. May 5 followed by the choir concert at 7 p.m. The Orchestra Concert will be on May 10.
FOOD DISTRIBUTION: On the Second Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m.-noon, there will be a drive thru food distribution at Northeast MS 1170 Fernwood Street. The distribution is open to families of BASD students.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
THOMAS JEFFERSON ES COMMUNITY DAY: There will be a bike course by the C.A.T (Coalition for Appropriate Transportation), a snack stand, Community Partners, a helmet giveaway, D.J. Kenny, and games and prizes. Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
ASA PACKER ES PATIO PARTY SPONSORS NEEDED: The Asa Packer ES PTA is looking for sponsors and donations for their annual Patio Party. There are four levels of sponsorships. Business sponsors may have a display table at the event, and will receive plenty of publicity. For more information, visit the Asa Packer ES PTA page on Facebook. The Patio Party will be held May 12. MARVINE ES COMMUNITY FESTIVAL: All are welcome at the Marvine Community Festival May 11 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be games, food, music and raffles.
SPRING GARDEN ES CARNIVAL: The eighth annual Spring Garden ES carnival will be held May 12 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. There will be Carnival games, concessions and a basket raffle. Contact Springgardenpto@gmail.com for more information.
FARMERSVILLE ES WELLNESS NIGHT: Enjoy a free night of Art, games, Pilates, gardening, mindfulness, salt therapy, nutrition activity, concessions and a basket raffle. May 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the school gym.
BROUGHGAL MS SPRING CONCERT: Broghal’s Band, Orchestra, South Side Singers, Jazz Band and Majorettes. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow. Tickets are $3
