George J. Giamalis
George J. Giamalis, 92, of Macungie, died peacefully at his home, April 21, 2023. He was the husband of the late Florence Ann Barnes Giamalis. Born in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of the late James and Anastasia (Cladas) Giamalis.
He grew up in Northeast Philadelphia and attended Frankfurt High School. While at Frankfurt High, he joined the Pennsylvania National Guard. He graduated in 1947 and enlisted in the Army; later that same year, the Army Air Forces became the newly created United States Air Force where he served as a radar operator. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
Education was important to him. He attended local colleges and specialty programs taking classes in finance and management, He eventually taught cash management seminars.
He started his career at General Acceptance Corporation and within a few years moved to Greece and then Germany before coming back to the East Coast. He continued his finance career with Bank America/FinanceAmerica, Associates First and retired from Chrysler First in 1992 as a vice president.
During his career he was particularly interested in cash management becoming an expert in the field and helping many businesses get their cash management programs in place.
He served as a board member of the Allentown Credit Bureau for many years. He was part of the United Way and was prominent in the Greek organization of AHEPA.
Combining his commitment to community and love of investing, he helped to establish the Shepherd Hills Scholarship Fund and the Annie Scholarship Fund (soon to be renamed the Anne and George Scholarship Fund). The Annie Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 in memory of his late wife which has helped over 30 Lehigh Valley senior high students with their continuing education.
He enjoyed golfing, especially at his beloved Shepherd Hills Golf Club. He was an avid handyman and enjoyed home renovations and other fix-it projects. He was an astute investor and loved sharing his knowledge with family and friends and eventually taught his grandchildren his secret formula.
His love of adventure and travel took him all across the United States, Europe, Greece and Australia. He spent his vacations in Maine, building an A-frame cabin with his wife and four children on Upper Lead Mountain Pond. Upon his retirement, he spent summers there becoming an accomplished fisherman. He held the lake record for many years.
He is survived by his children: Sally, Keith Heller, Dimitria and Christopher Barebo, James and Jamie, Alice and Justin Eastwood; grandchildren, Robyn, Daniel, Amanda, Sydney, Christian, Evan and Ian; brother, Peter. He was predeceased by brothers, Alex, Nick; an infant son, Christopher (twin).

A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends 3 to 5 p.m. May 13 at Superior Restaurant, 102 Main St., Emmaus. Arrangements were made by the Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Homes, Emmaus.
