Through the first four meets of the 2023 season the Parkland boys track and field team is a perfect 4-0. Last Wednesday afternoon their latest victim was the Central Catholic Vikings, 126-20.
Dylan Simon won the 100-meter dash, while teammate Trey Tremba took the 200 and Andrew Beers claimed the 400.
Paul Abeln was outstanding in the meet, winning the 1,600 and 3,200 races. Beers won the 110-meter hurdles and teammate Jacob Madeira took the 300 hurdles. The Trojans swept all three relay races.
Parkland also found success in the field events. Connor Johns took the high jump, while James McCauley won the pole vault. Joshua Pulver won the long jump and Jack Harrison was top in the triple jump. The top discus thrower this afternoon was Parkland’s Julius Reyes, while Leo Dauberman easily won the javelin throw.
The Trojans’ success this season has not surprised coach Stephen Ott.
“We are defending regular season EPC champs and we expect to be in contention for the title again this year,” Ott said.
The regular season title could be decided in the final regular season meet, scheduled at home against Emmaus on May 2. The EPC postseason championship is set for May 9 and 10 at Whitehall High School. The District 11 3A title will be decided on May 16 and 17, also at Whitehall.
“Emmaus and Easton will have strong teams as always,” Ott said of the competition.
