The Parkland girls track and field team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 120-30 win over Central Catholic last Wednesday afternoon.
The Trojans’ success this season has been based on their depth and talent. In most meets this season Parkland simply has more weapons at its disposal than its opponents, and that scenario was true against the Vikings.
Naeema Salau has been fast all season and faster than most girls in the East Penn Conference. Against Central she won the 100-meter dash in 12.63. Teammate Kale Seide took the 200, while Lucy Tobia sprinted to a win in the 400.
In distance running Lana Hurwitz claimed the 800-meter race and Jessica Price took the 1,600. Abby Bender won the 3,200. Hurdler Emily Hoysan won the 100-meter and 300-meterm competitions. The Trojan runners also won all three relay races.
Parkland also performed well in the field events. Hailey Schimmer won the pole vault, while Hailey Sammarco won the long jump. Catherine Crampton won the triple jump, while Alexia Pritchard won the shot put and Bella Dauberman took the discus.
In between meets, coach Stephen Ott and his assistant coaches train hard to be prepared to be at their best for their competitions.
“Each area has a different area to complete their warm-up period,” Ott said. “This is followed by a dynamic warm-up period. Then, it depends on the day. There are technique, endurance, hard workout, strengthening, or recovery days. At the end of practice, core and stretching are key components as well.”
The Trojans are scheduled to battle Whitehall on April 18.
