NWL baseball gets to .500

The Northwestern Lehigh baseball team is back to a .500 record after wins over Palisades and Wilson that were on either end of a loss to Saucon Valley (7-2, 6-2). The Tigers are now 6-6 overall and 5-5 in the Colonial League.

Three Saucon Valley pitchers held Northwestern to just five hits in a 12-2 loss for the Tigers. Five different Tiger players collected hits. Watson Church, Aidan Freeman and Austin Eisenhard all singled. Chase Moyer and Robert Croneberger doubled for the Tigers.

The Tigers took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth when Moyer doubled with one out and one out later scored on an error by Palisades (4-6, 3-5). An inning later, Northwestern stretched its lead to 5-2.

With one out, another Palisades error put Josh Lichman on base. Croneberger followed with a double to put runners on second and third and another error allowed courtesy runner Nolan Fitzgerald to score. Josh Farber singled to left to bring in Croneberger.

The Pirates mounted a seventh-inning rally and scored two runs, but Moyer was able to work out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam by recording the final two outs on strikeouts to lock down the win.

Moyer continued his strong pitching when he got the start against Wilson (7-4, 6-4) and threw six shutout innings, giving up just two hits and three walks. Of the 18 outs he recorded, 11 came on strikeouts and he finished the game with 104 pitches, 64 for strikes. Shaun O’Donnell pitched a perfect seventh inning, striking out all three batters he faced on just 13 pitches.

Wes George had four hits and Croneberger had three in the game, with Croneberger and Lichman both driving in two runs. Two of the hits by George were doubles.

The Tigers have just one game this week, coming on Thursday against Moravian Academy (1-6, 1-6) before hosting Notre Dame of Green Pond (1-9, 1-8) on Monday.
