Hornet boys win Pirate Invite

The Emmaus boys track and field team finished first in the Pirate Invitational held last Friday at Palisades High School.

The Green Hornets took the crown in the six-team field with 248 points. Northampton finished second with 120.

Dylan Darville, one of the best athletes in the East Penn Conference, won the 100-meter race by an eyelash over teammate Blaise Verrastro. Darville also took the shot put.

Distance runner Oscar Felegy continued a season of strong performances by taking second place in the 1,6000, while Sam Dalton ran strong in securing a third-place finish in the 3,200.

Lucian Facchiano was a winner in the 110-meter hurdles, and Ben Price took third in the 300 hurdles.

The Hornet relay teams did fine work in Kintnersville Friday as Donovan McCargo, Verrastro, Darville and Kyle Moore won the 4x100, while Tyler Finck, Brett Pavec, Lane Bassett and Verrastro finished second in the 4x400. Jared Petre, Miles Cook, Kai Mattern and Conor Fisher won the 4x800.

Jackson Schneider finished third in the discus throw, while Tyriq Smith and Haven Tarbox finished second and third in the javelin, respectively. Lucian Freeman tied with teammate Moore for the high jump title, while Aiden Hurlburt was victorious in the pole vault with Emmaus’ Tyler Grabinski finishing second.

Moore wasn’t through showing the field what he was made of, as he won the long jump with teammate Jasiyah Banks taking third.

Emmaus returns home for an April 17 battle against Bethlehem Catholic, and then the Hornets will compete against Liberty at BASD Stadium on April 20.
