The Emmaus High School softball team had a successful week last week. The Green Hornets won all three of their games, all Eastern Pennsylvania Conference contests, and were all of the double-digit variety.
The three victories were by a combined 51-1 score, including a shutout, no-hit win over rival Parkland.
Emmaus began the week by going to Dieruff and winning 21-0 last Monday, April 10. The next day, the Green Hornets beat Pocono Mountain West 15-1. To conclude the week on Thursday, Emmaus came out on top 15-0 over the Trojans. It was the fourth win in-a-row after a three-game losing streak.
“The season has been a little like a roller coaster,” said Hornet head coach Rich Giering. “We have win streaks combined with losing streaks. There are a lot of great teams in our league so any time we can get on a win streak it is a good thing. We hope to keep it going. Pitching has been really good all year long, our hitting has to get more consistent each and every game, however.”
Senior pitcher Danika Barthol threw no-hitter against Parkland as Emmaus dispatched of the Trojans by the mercy rule in just four innings.
Senior Mason Roselli led the Hornet offense, going for 2-for-4 with three RBI, while sophomore Sadie Haefeli also had a pair of hits and two runs scored. Senior Avaeha Schwab also had two RBI on the day and senior Daria Krout scored three runs. It was one of the biggest regular season wins in program history. The Trojans (4-7 ovearll, 4-6 EPC) have won seven of the last nine league titles. They have posted a winning record in every season since 1986.
“Every win against Parkland is a good win because of the type of program they are,” Giering said. “They made a few mistakes today and we capitalized on them and hit some balls hard.”
Emmaus is 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the EPC.
