Emmaus boys tennis readies for postseason

The Emmaus boys tennis team continued its march toward the postseason with two wins last week to improve to 12-5 on the season.

The Hornets served and volleyed to 6-0 victories over East Stroudsburg South and Stroudsburg.

In the win over ESS, No. 1 singles Eddy Chow was awesome, defeating Hamez Chaudhry, 6-0, 6-0. Chow has emerged as one of the better No. 1 singles players in the EPC. Save for losses to Freedom’s Noah Potts and Liberty’s Roman Farhad, Chow has won every match and his continued improvement has placed the Hornets among the league’s top teams.

No. 2 Nick Stone has nicely complimented Chow and has given Emmaus a potent one-two punch. Against Stroudsburg, Stone had it all going his way and showcased his backhand and forehand in beating Noah Dickinson, 6-0, 6-2. No. 3 Zach Moser breezed through his match against South’s Alex Kolakowski, 6-0, 6-2 and has had a fine overall season.

The Hornets’ doubles teams have progressed throughout the 2023 campaign for coach Fred Saab. Ryan Baig and Quinn Durkin, Quaid Peatiwala and Sarvesh Senguttuvan, and Abdoul Aidala and Huy Huynh were all winners against the Burgs.

“Huy is a very positive person, has a passion for the game, loves to practice and is excited to play for the team,” Saab said. “Abdoul has excellent technical strokes and is a strong player.”

Sandwiched between the wins was a tough 4-3 loss at Freedom. The Pates improved to 13-0 with the win. All three Emmaus wins came courtesy of the doubles teams.

The regular season’s final scheduled match is scheduled for April 17 at home against rival Parkland. The East Penn Conference tournament is set for April 20, with the District 11 3A championships scheduled to start April 24.

“The EPC schools I expect to be in the mix for the championship are Parkland, Liberty, Freedom, along with ourselves,” Saab said at the start of the year. “These schools throughout my tenure have been our toughest opponents.”
