Walter P. Risley Jr.
Walter P. Risley Jr. DDS FAGD, 82, of Allentown, died peacefully April 17, 2023, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, after a short illness.
He and his wife, Kathleen M. (Murphy) Risley, would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in August.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Ethel F. (Ringer) and Walter P. Risley Sr.
He grew up in Kutztown, graduated from Kutztown Area High School, received his Bachelor of Science degree from Muhlenberg College and was a 1967 graduate of Temple University School of Dentistry.
He then served two years with the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, S.C.
He opened his own dental practice, Walter P. Risley Jr. DDS FAGD and continued in practice for 55 years before retiring in 2021.
His practice began in Trexlertown, relocated to Allentown many years ago and has been continued by his daughter, Jennifer K. Risley DMD LLC.
He was a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Lehigh Valley dental associations and the Academy of General Dentistry.
He was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church, Allentown.
A lifelong sports enthusiast with a special fondness for baseball, having played in high school and college, he was an original season ticket holder of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
He also was a Philly sports fan, cheering for the Sixers, Eagles and Phillies.
He also enjoyed fishing and golfing and his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Dr. Walter P. Risley III and his wife, Angel, of Ocean Springs, Miss.; daughters Patricia A. Risley of Allentown, Dr. Jennifer K. Risley and her husband, Dr. Shawn Quinn, of Allentown; grandchildren Andrew, Nathan, Olivia, Patrick, Molly, Carter and Liam; and sister Linda Yoder and her husband, Thomas, of Chevy Chase, Md.
