Voters should research candidates running in Primary, writer says

To the Editor:

On May 16, registered Republicans and Democrats get to choose candidates for school boards.

School board members are nonpartisan elected positions.

They should not align with any political party or special interest.

Because these positions are nonpartisan, candidates are allowed to cross-file.

You will see the same names listed on Primary Election ballots, whether it is a Republican or Democratic ballot.

But behind this cross-filed list, our suburban school board races have candidates who are supported by Moms for Liberty, a right-wing organization with an alleged agenda of harassment of school boards.

Public education must serve all students, so that they are prepared for the future to enter the workforce, military service or higher education and focus on academic proficiency in mathematics, language arts, science, and technology.

Please investigate and vote for the candidates who promote the values of public education.

Do not allow individuals or groups that attack public education to infiltrate your school boards.
